Our story, from Melbourne with a South East Asian heart

From corporate to culinary: Karen's journey
Karen Chan, the heart behind Kuih Lady and Baba’s Wife, embarked on a remarkable journey after migrating to Melbourne in 1999. What began as a necessity soon blossomed into a fervent quest to preserve food heritage, share nostalgic flavours, and master traditional South East Asian recipes using locally available ingredients. In 2021, Karen traded her 30-year corporate career for an apron, committing fully to her culinary passion.

Crafted with pride, delivered with consistency
At Kuih Lady, our unwavering motto is ‘Pride in our product’. We are dedicated to delivering consistent quality and reliable supply, a commitment our long-term customers readily attest to.
What sets Kuih Lady apart? Every treat is made from scratch with no preservatives, ensuring unparalleled freshness.
How we started…
Baba’s Wife started in 2012, as a caterer offering a small selection of delicacies which we, South East Asians, call KUIH. If you’re unfamiliar with this word, Kuih / 粿 is a borrowed term from the Hokkien dialect, to describe rice-based cakes.
Production
In 2021, we moved to a larger production kitchen in Doncaster and Kuih Lady was established as a wholesale supplier to cafes, restaurants and caterers.
Our food is made in a hygienic production facility and our team follows strict safety standards focusing on cleanliness, separation of ingredients, proper cooking, and temperature control.
We reinvest back into our business, constantly striving for sustainability, enhanced efficiency, and innovative culinary approaches to bring you the very best.

Partnerships built on taste and trust
Our vegan (dairy-free and egg-less) and gluten-free cakes are among our most sought-after offerings, loved by cafes and restaurants seeking diverse and inclusive menu options. Partnering with Kuih Lady means gaining a reliable supplier renowned for consistent quality and an assurance of supply, allowing you to delight your customers with exceptional treats.
